AMERICAN IDOL 2011 – TOP 9 PERFORM – RECAP
Tonight is Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Night featuring a round of Rock songs. After last week’s double elimination of Thia Megia and Naima Adedapo, the numbers are getting down and we closer to the finale.
This week they are pulling in some serious star power, Gwen Stefani was brought in, she is styling the ladies in her L.A.M.B fashion line.
This week Will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas coached the contestants.
Jacob Lusk: Man in the Mirror – Jacob was first going to sing Let’s Get It On by Marvin Gaye and should have stuck with that. I didn’t care for his rendition of Michael Jackson’s song. Tyler said it was beautiful. Lopez said that Jacob let’s everyone know that if you believe in yourself you can do anything. Jackson loved that Jacob followed his moral conviction.
Haley Reinhart: Piece of My Heart – Awesome, she was amazing, love that raspy Bonnie Tyler voice! Lopez said she is a contender, people have to be careful. Jackson loved the bluesy kind of soul. Tyler couldn’t find anything wrong with it, she nailed it.
Casey Abrams: Have You Ever Seen the Rain – I’m not crazy about him but I found myself singing along with him, he was good tonight. Jackson said he did justice to the song and made upright base cool, he’s revolutionary. Tyler said he should put some wheels on the base and ride it around in town, he’s a true musician and was impressed by the base. Lopez said she would pay top dollar to be in the top room.
Lauren Alaina: Natural Woman – She belted it out and nailed the notes. Tyler said he loves her and called her a natural born woman, she was great. Lopez said she’s amazing. Jackson said it was the most difficult and thought she did a good job.
James Durbin: While My Guitar Gently Weeps – Disappointing, he should stick to the faster pace songs. Lopez loved it, that he shared his vulnerability. Jackson loved seeing the emotional side and the high notes. Tyler said that it was really good, a proud moment.
Scotty McCreery: That’s Alright Mama – He’s got the voice, but he lacks Elvis’s moves. Jackson said Scotty is in it to win it, not a one trick pony, a new Scotty. Tyler thought he was all hat and no cattle, he brought Elvis into the house, he did it well. Lopez said he was funny and asked him if he watched rap or hip hop because she felt a little flavor.
Pia Toscano: River Deep, Mountain High – Didn’t like it and the outfit sucked. Tyler said she killed it. Lopez said she was spectacular and wants her to get that performance into it. Jackson said she can definitely do those up tempos, she’s in it to win it.
Stefano Langone: When a Man Loves a Woman – Someone has to steer this guy in the right direction, Michael Bolton’s voice is raspy and his is flat. Boring. Lopez said she knew he had it in him, it was beautiful. Jackson said it sounded jerky, he liked it but wasn’t jumping up and down. Tyler disagrees with Jackson, he liked it and said he has a great range.
Paul McDonald: Folsom Prison Blues – I like Paul, but this is not the song for him, maybe because I am such a big Johnny Cash fan, I didn’t like the way he changed it up. Jackson said he had three words, ‘I loved it’. Tyler called him a crazy cat. Lopez said it was a great way to end the night.
Stay tuned tomorrow night when we find out who goes home and who will be your top eight!
