Katy Perry has said that talking about the divorce in her latest 3D documentary/movie, Katy Perry: Part of Me, was vital to do because she wouldn’t want her fans to think that she’d leave important things like that out. Her reason was that if someone was to see the movie and not see what happened between her and Russell Brand, it wouldn’t make sense to just not talk about it and avoid it.

Russell filed for divorce in November, last year a week after the couple had canceled an upcoming trip to London, in hopes to spend Christmas with Russell’s family – which sadly never ended up happening. Speaking to Jay Leno, the singer explains:

“I think that if you went to see the movie and it was completely avoided you come out of that theatre going, ‘Hmmm…That’s strange, I know something else did happen at that time in her life last year,” Perry explained.

She continued: “I wanted to handle it very delicately with the most integrity I could possibly have and show people that, like, ‘Look, yeah, I’m going through some of the same situations that half of America goes through’, and somehow I landed on my feet and you don’t have to lay down and die even if you feel like you’re going to.”
