Country fans were devastated today to hear that country legend Kitty Wells died today July,16,2012. Kitty was 92-years-old at the time of her death and she passed away in Nashville,Tennessee.
If you are not familiar with Kitty’s music - some of her hit songs include “Making Believe” and of course my personal favorite “It Wasn’t God who made Honky Tonk Angels”.
Her recording Of “It Wasn’t God who made Honky Tonk Angels” hit No. 1 by a female artist on the country music charts! If that’s not impressive enough, well I really don’t know what to tell you.
CBS News Reported: “The Singer’s Family said she died peacefully at home after complications from a stroke.”
Kitty was elected into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1976 . Exactly 10 years later she received the Pioneer Award from the Academy of Country Music! Kitty Well’s solo career lasted from 1952 all the way until the late 1970s.
She proudly accepted the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences in 1991. This is also the group that presents the Grammy Awards.
Hollywood Life also reported: “In 2008, the Library of Congress announced that Kitty’s record, “It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels,” had been added to its National Recording Registry of works of unusual historic merit. That same year, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum hosted an exhibit about her career. ”
Kitty Wells had a highly successful career and her music will forever remain in our hearts! May she Rest In Peace we love you!
