Not everyone gets a “wake up” call to alert them that they have a serious health problem, I was one of the lucky ones that did. When I turned 40, I weighed in at the highest in my life, an unbelievable 260 pounds! Having severe pain in my right side and being fatigued, I was diagnosed with a severe fatty liver after an ultrasound. The first question that people asked me, was if I had consumed a lot of alcohol regularly and the answer was no. My fatty liver was caused from decades of over eating high fat foods which resulted in, and I can’t believe I am saying this, being obese. The fat that accumulates around the liver can cause inflammation and scaring but I was lucky, my liver was not at that stage yet.
The specialist that my family doctor referred me to said that I had to drop weight and change my diet, but since (as he said it) I had been “fat” all my life, he thought that it was highly unlikely that I could do it on my own and suggested I have gastric lap-band surgery to take off the weight. I can honestly say that I never left a doctor’s office so fast in my life!
Feeling depressed and not knowing where to turn, I had to come up with a solution. I was the one who got myself into this and I was the only that was going to get myself out.
I am happy to say that I did lose weight and reversed the fatty liver. I am now healthier, stronger and thinner.
