64-year old Kathy Bates who became famous with her performance in Misery back in 1990, for which she won both an Academy Award a Golden Globe revealed to PEOPLE that she was diagnosed with breast cancer and recently underwent a double mastectomy.
This is not the first cancer battle that Kathy has had to fight, back in 2003 she battled ovarian cancer and won. Kathy has a positive and inspiring outlook for the future, here is some of what she revealed:
“After much consideration, I underwent a double mastectomy.” ”Luckily, I don’t have to undergo radiation or chemo. My family calls me Kat because I always land on my feet, and thankfully this is no exception.” ”My doctors have assured me I’m going to be around for a long time. I’m looking forward to getting back to work and doing what I love to do.” ”Hey All, sorry for the long silence,” she tweeted. “I was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 months ago & am recovering from a double mastectomy.”
Kathy’s last TV appearance, besides Harry’s Law, was at the end of season 9 of Two and a Half Men where her character appeared in a single episode as a ghost.
Kathy is nominated for an Emmy as Outstanding Actress in a Drama for her role in NBC’s Harry’s Law and she has every intention on attending the star studded event. The 64th annual award show airs September 23rd.
I love Kathy and hope she makes another movie, her best role for me was as an obsessed fan in the thriller Misery along side James Caan. But, I can never forget her as prison inmate, Bele Bodelle on All My Children even though she won no awards for that performance.
