Today, Justin Bieber‘s mother, Pattie Mallette has a new book out called Nowhere But Up: The Story of Justin Bieber’s Mom. Pattie appeared on The Ellen Show and the Today show, doing the talk show circuit to promote her first book.
Pattie’s journey is an amazing an incredible one from overcoming drug and alcohol addiction to deciding to keep her baby boy at 17 and ignoring pressure to abort the pregnancy.
Pattie felt abandoned and unloved as a teenager and didn’t make very good choices for herself. She contemplated committing suicide and it was only when she met a Christian counselor in a psychiatric ward that her life began to turn around. Patti admitted to Kathy Lee Gifford on Today that she suffered through years of sexual abuse, “I’ve learned it’s normal and natural for anybody who’s been through sexual abuse to carry that shame and that blame and feel like there’s something wrong with you. So I definitely carried that.” About aborting the pregnancy she said, “I just knew I couldn’t [abort it]. I just knew I couldn’t. I just know I had to keep him and do the best. I — you know, I didn’t know how I was going to do it. But I just knew that I couldn’t — I couldn’t abort. I had to do my best. I had to see what I could do. And I was determined to do whatever it took.”
And how does Justin feel about all of this? Pattie told USA Today that he is very proud and supportive of her. Pattie’s story will inspire people that no matter what they battle, there is hope!
